Multi-functional component reduces costs.
The assembly process for transmission control units used to involve the complex step of fitting them with pressure compensation caps including an integrated membrane. These caps are necessary to protect the sensitive electronics from pressure changes that could result, for instance, from changing climatic conditions.
Schreiner ProTech has come up with a simpler solution for SIMEA GmbH, a subsidiary of Siemens AG, for a product used in the automotive sector. A TTR-printable nameplate serves as a permanent component label and as a membrane-based PCS. The PCS ensures optimum pressure compensation and also protects the electronics from dust and moisture. The PCS and the nameplate are combined in a self-adhesive label. The label is automatically applied in a onestep process, which eliminates the timeconsuming job of separately installing pressure compensation valves.
Stefan Petsch, Managing Director of SIMEA GmbH, notes: "By combining the PCS and the nameplate, Schreiner ProTech has simplified our manufacturing process in a major way. This saves costs and gives us an additional competitive advantage."
